27.7.05 17:43 Mailto: with subject and body ( , , , )

I discovered today that the mailto: command supports not only the To field but many other fields too.

Example:
click here to send a mail

Code:
< href ="mailto:mail@somehost.org?subject=Testmail
&body=Hello Jean-Marc,%0A%0AWorks great.%0A%0ARegards.">send a mail</a>

The example sets also subject and body field of the mail.

Other fields one can set:

  • Many adresses: separate with semicolon (;)
  • CC: cc=mail@somehost.org
  • BCC: bcc=mail@somehost.org
  • subject and body, as shown above. %0A is return

25.7.05 18:05 Windows XP Fast User Switching Feature doesn't work ... ( , , , )

... when your PC is member of a domain :-(

Read this.

Anyone has a explanation for it? I'm to tired to read extensive architecture :( documents from MS.

By the way, google find 25.000 reasons why Windows sucks, Yahoo 48.3
00, AltaVista 50.300, MSN still 9.600. See also Operating System Sucks-Rules-O-Meter.

23.7.05 10:39 Did you know that... golden ratio ( , , , )

The following information are from German wikipedia Goldener Schnitt.

You probably all know that golden ratio is the ratio between two numbers which is considered as
aesthetically pleasing.

But there are some other intereting aspects mentioned in above article:
  • Golden ratio is represented by greek letter phi
  • samples: golden angle, golden rectangle, fibunacci numbers,
  • other ratios: 4/3=1,3: TV format, sqr(2)=1,414 DIN A4 format, 3/2=1,5 35mm film format, phi=1,618, 5/3=1,6 cinema format, 16/9=1,7 broad image TV format. So why did they choose a new format for broad image TV instead of taking cinema format (5/3) which is nearer to golden ratio? Because 16/9 relation is closer to human view.
  • one can build aspect ratio with compass and ruler
  • a pentagramm includes many golden ratio rules
  • the gastropod (snails, slugs...) shell sometimes follow the folden spiral rule
  • cheops pyramid is build so that the surface of each side is equal to the square of the high of the pyramid. Similar ratios are found in Parthenon temple or Akropolis
  • many pictures from renaissance time are according to golden ratio (Raffael, da Vinci...)
  • some music contains golden ratio between clock/speed or frequencies
  • human body contains some golden ratio (size of arms)
  • Other: nature, astronomy, ...

20.7.05 22:13 Back from Holiday... ( , , , )

After spending one day in Aachen (wedding), 8 days in St. Trojan, one in Chenonceau and Orleans, and 1/2 day in Paris, we are back at home.

Work starts again on Monday. There are few chalenges/decisions during next weeks:

  • soccer tournament during next weekend
  • travel to Madrid and give a customer training
  • travel to Africa to check project status
  • my girl friend is thinking about starting a new job in Frankfurt, which is around 200km from Saarbrücken. This means to take an appartment in Frankfurt, don't live closely together as we did during last 8 years, risk/chances of new job ... many discussions.
  • choose a training I will get until end of the year (probably J2EE)
  • have the yearly job status discussion with my chief (whats wrong, whats right, more money?)
  • maybe visit a friend in Nürnberg
  • ...
Live isn't boringly :-)

12.7.05 11:56 T-Online international Internet access in France ( , , , )

For the first time I use the T-Online World Access. It allows to connect to Internet in more than 150 countries.

I only have an analog line during holidays, so it's a little bit slow, but enough for mails and blog. Too slow for bloglines :-(

I'm charged 8 cent per minute for online access (by t-online, I have a call by call access) and local telefon call costs (don't knwo how much it is exatcly). There is a central access number in France for analog/ISDN dial-in: 08 6050 1000

One can use the T-Online dial-in software. It allows to select the country/city where you are, and then dials in the next access point.

6.7.05 10:34 Holidays ( , , , )

Holidays

first day of my holidays. We will start on Saturday to Aachen where we will go to the wedding of a friend. Then on Sunday we drive by car to St. Trojan/Ile d'Oléron/France.

During next 3 days I have many private things to prepare and finalize (car, insurances, tax, shopping), in order to have a recreative holiday.

Husky, our rat, will stay at home. His 'Grandmother', my mother, will come once a day and feed him. Normally he run during the day in the whole appartement, now he has to stay for 10 days in his cage. But he is a little bit like Garfield (see here and here) and love to spend his day sleeping (he has a hammok in his cage) and eating, I suppose this is ok for him :-)

10:22 Going to Soccer World Cup 2006 ( , , , )

After European cup in Lisbon/Portugal last year, I will go next year to Soccer World Cup 2006. A friend of mine got tickets for two games (wasn't easy, 10 Mio ticket requests for 810 thousands tickets in first lottery drawing).

We will attend to game number 51 in Stuttgart (round of sixteen) and game number 60 in Frankfurt (quarter final). Here is an overview of all games.

Qualifications are still ongoing, so we don't know yet which teams will participate and which teams we will see in our matches. I hope to see one of the following: France, Germany, England, Brazil, Senegal, Cameroon, and Argentina.
