23.1.04 20:02 libGL.a problem/NVidia ( , , , )

Linux: for those of you who problems compiling applications and you get the error message

libtool: link: `/usr/lib/libGL.la' is not a valid libtool archive"

There is a error in libGL.la from nvidia. You have to replace in /usr/lib/libGL.la the line

# Generated by nvidia-installer: 1.0.5

with the line

# Generated by nvidia-installer: 1.0.5 (for use by libtool)

Linux: I just update my Suse 9 box with apt upgrade and wondered that opera 7.50 has been installed. I checkd the homepage and there the last version for both Windows and Linuxis 7.23. Seems to be a beta, but anyway it's nice to see how easy it is to get new software with a sofiticated packet management system (imagine you would had to download an executable, check it with your virus scanner, execute it, click through setup... :-)

Java: read this article by Rusty Harold. Hie arguments why we need Java 3.0 are:
10. Delete all deprecated methods, fields, classes, and interfaces.

8. Eliminate primitive data types.
7. Extend chars to four bytes.
6. Fix threads.
5. Convert file formats to XML.
4. Ditch the AWT
3. Rationalize the collections.
2. Redesign I/O.
1. Redesign class loading from scratch, this time with human interface factors in mind

Linux: Israeli goverment will not upgrade to newer version of MS Office. Instead the Finance Ministry cooperate with SUN and IBM to develop hebrew version of OpenOffice. Read the full article at informationweek. The article mention other countries which switch also on the desktop to Linux: Some federal agencies in France, China, and Germany, the city government of Munich, national governments in Britain, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, China, and Russia. Does someone knows a site where is a full list of governmental agencies which are switching to Linux?
