I played a little bit with Thinlets. Very impressive. I ported a little application which shows a table of processes. When clicking on entries, details of the process are displayed below the table. The table is created by parsing an xml file which is fetched from a http server.

Sharp Zaurus ROM 3.10 released. Here are my first experiences. I flashed my german SL5500G as usaully. After reboot, no more boot messages, but a boot screen saying that I have to wait 1 minute. Then first settings: no big changes, but MMI looks 'smoother'.
System Information: 2.4.18 kernel, Embedix 2.0, Opera 6.0, Jeode, Qtopia 1.5.4.
Some applications come as separate zip file: Hancom, Jeode 1.10.7+Demos, camera, qpe-filemanager, go, mindbreaker, minesweeper, qastoroid, snake, terminal, wordgame

Document tab: many improvments. One can choose between list and icon display. It starts with 'My Zaurus', which display the internal storage, th esd card and cf card.Directories are nice 3D directory icons. Folders can be created, fast access to last open files.

TBD...

  • Develop for .NET Compact Framework without Visual Studio .NET and use them with mono:handlhelds on your Zaurus
  • Application Layer Packet Classifier for Linux. I like the idea of building applciation layer filters based on regular expressions, but I doubt that regular expressions are fast enough. Anyway, to give you an idea, here are some filters:

    • ftp: 220 .*(\[.*\]|\(.*\))
    • kazaa: get /.hash=.* http/1.1
    • pop3: \+ok pop3 .* server ready
    • ...

  • Search Engines: Lucene and Classifier4J. Both seems very interesting for managing hugh amoun of files and unstructured information, but both need third party tools in order to convert files in text. POI seems to be a good approach for it, but it's still not the high number of format types that commercial system uses. And yes, all this is in Java :-)
  • Eclipse debugging article. Including "Hotswap Bug Fixing: On-the-fly code fixing" and "Remote debugging"

  • Regexp coach. App to inetractively try out regular expressions
  • It seems that there is a kind of uniformization in blogging API. MetaWeblog API< has been enhanced and no contains some missong methods. Next step is to find common method names.
  • Book review on nfstool. The conclusion (of the book): company have to choose between price, service, access, experience, and product and not try to put all of them as primary goal of theire business
  • Black box Web site testing with HttpUnit.
