VmWare 4 test
Yesterday I tried out VmWare 4 Workstation and I must say I love it. I donwloaded a demo version and a 30 day evaluation key. After few hours I had several OS running on my laptop in parallel. Easy installation, no pitfalls.
Here is a list of use cases I think VmWare is great:
- you want to try a new OS or Software, but don't want have a free PC or don't want to repartition your harddrive
- multi version testing
- OS language: test your Software running on English, Japanese and Hebrew Windows version
- Installationkit testing: as you can take a snapshot of the system at any time, you can re-test your installation kit installation again in again, each time having exactly the same environment
- virus manipulation: when you get data's and are not sure what they contain, VmWare is a nice sandbox
- firewall script tests: as you can add several virtual network cards, you can tests firewalls with ,any network cards without needing the hardware
- configuration management: ok, you don't have exactly the same installation than you customer, but at least you can save a copy of each version. When a customer complains about an old version, just re-activate it and check his complains
- markteting: instead of installing many demo laptops for each presentation, do it once and who ever wants to make a presentation can take it. Each presentation will have the same functionality, same data's and you can be sure that it works
Good job VmWare, I just ordered
